Snuneymuxw Dad and Daughter Duo Benefit From KLF Bursary

Motivating Indigenous children and youth through sport and recreation is a significant contributor to improving health and wellness, self-esteem, leadership skills and social connections. KLF’s Sport, Recreation and Culture Grants help offset registration costs for parents to ensure children from our Member Nations can participate in these activities.

Snuneymuxw dad Cody King puts his daughter Nevaeh through annual junior hip-hop classes with the Protégé Dance Project in Victoria thanks to the bursary: “It’s incredibly impactful, she’s made so many friends and has picked up life skills while burning energy. Physically being able to do it is awesome, but it also does wonders for her mental health.”

As a single dad living away from community for most of Nevaeh’s life, he relies on KL Foundation: “Lack of support has been an unfortunate theme in our life, so this is essential. The Foundation has done so much, it’s so important to us.”

Cody sees his daughter’s dance classes as an outlet for trauma, and Nevaeh confirms this in her own way. “Dance makes my mind and body stronger! I love the confidence it’s given me and the friends I’ve made. I feel happy when I go dance!”

We share their sentiment when they say, “We wish every child had an opportunity to do this.”

KLF relies on the generous donations of individuals and corporate donors so we can continue providing opportunities like this for children and youth in our nine member Nations. Please reach out to info@klfoundation.ca  to learn more about the impacts and benefits of donating.
